Hi
I've been using MS for WM for a year now, and could happily have killed someone because of it. I am trying to avoid prison during the six months until my contract runs out and I will be rid of this WM phone forever. (HTC TyTn II with T-Mobile in UK). It's a shame because I quite like the phone.

Sometimes, MS just works. More often than not, I get a selection of the following:

- iCal errors, necessitating in it going over every single appointment in my calendar for resaon not specified other an an 'error'.

- These errors often cause MS to beachball, or just sit there greyed out and refusing to move.

- It asking me, on launch, whether there is a firewall issue - there never is, and my firewall is always set to accept everything from MS. This also means I have to keep on force quitting and starting again.

- (the worst) - it won't let me sync contacts from just one specified group. Well, it will once, and then it decides to put all 1500 contacts from my computer into the phone and deleting any new ones I've put in it. This I have given up on, and have to spend half my time scrolling through ancient numbers from 6 years ago. And remembering that the new contacts that have been out straight into my phone have been deleted.

Software ought to just work, but this doesn't. I have been to the site and gone through some of the tech advice walkthroughs. But there doesn't seem to be an option for these particular problems. Or if there is, it seems not to relate to my stuff here.

Restarting my computer helps. but I shouldn't have to do that. Repeatedly having to reinstall MS isn't good enough either. I'm willing to accept I've been a numpty somewhere down the line, but I've never met such a nightmare program, at least one that I'm currently obliged to use.

All suggestions (including 'get an iPhone') would be useful - thanks!

Wow. Nobody knows? Nobody cares? Am I right? Am I wrong? Oh well - thanks for looking!

bella,

What version of Missing Sync for WM are you currently using?

Also:

Are you using Entourage 2004 or 2008?

Your experience shouldn't be the norm (for you or anyone) - hopefully we can track it down.

Thanks for replying. :-)

I'm using Apple Mail, iCal and Address Book, not Entourage at all.

As for which version of MS for WM, I'm not entirely sure. Is there a way of telling by looking on my phone?

Thanks...

You can go to Missing Sync on the Mac, click the 'Missing Sync' menu and choose 'About Missing Sync'. That will tell you the version. The issue of the selective sync not working well is a known issue. It's related to a bug in Apple's Sync Services so there is nothing we can do to fix it unfortunately.

With all the slowness of the syncs it might be a good idea to reset the Sync History of Sync Services. I'd recommend you talk with support about this issue too. To do so, please create a support ticket here.

I have Mac OS 10.4.11, Windows Mobile 6.1, just updated to MS 4.0.4 (446)
fairly typical problems with this software, communication errors, deleting entries rather than syncing in contacts and calender, or some entries that I have deleted it will keep adding them back rather than syncing the removal either completely or from the group

For some entries of people in contacts it keeps wanting to make them a Company, rather than a person.

I have been using this product for years and don't look forward to time to sync my device because it usually is an ordeal.

Often wonder if the iPhone would have been a better purchase.

If this is all from problem(s) with Apple SyncServices then please provide more details, so that I can take it up with Apple, as well.

It would be a good idea to work with support directly by creating a support ticket here.

It is likely a lot of Sync Services issues, but not necessarily an Apple problem. If you've got strand deletes and re-adds happening, you could have old sync clients that are interfering. There is a tool called 'Sync Services Cleanup' which can be used to find old sync clients and manually remove them. That might help things.

I tried MS for a few days and then since it seemed to be OK I bought it.
What a mistake! :x

I have an HTC Kaiser running WM 6.5, and I have "Voice-only" cellular service, so I rely on the USB connection for syncing.

I was a happy user of Microsoft's Active Sync since the very beginning, around 1998 with version 2.0, and I converted to a Mac about a year ago, but continued to use Active Sync over the Cellular line at work. I recently retired and lost that option, which led me to Missing Sync. I'm trying to sync an HTC Kaiser with iCal and Address book.

Regularly, the HTC Kaiser won't connect until I force-quit MS. and re-connect.

The contacts sync is abominable! I have about 2500 contacts which seldom change. MS takes about 15 minutes to go through them and usually discovers about 200 "conflicts" - which appear identical on the screen, and which I have not changed on either platform.

The entire sync process takes 15 - 20 minutes even without the phony "conflicts", compared to 2-3 minutes for Active Sync in Windows.

If anybody has ideas as to how to fix this, please post them here. I doubt if I could get a refund, so I'll probably have to "make do" with this awful program.

Walt - are you using Microsoft Entourage 2004 or 2008, by any chance?

I have Entourage 2008 installed, but it is not selected on the Missing Sync screen. I do not want to synchronize with the Exchange server, only with my local copies of iCal and Address Book.

In Entourage's Sync Services preferences, are any of the checkboxes enabled?

Having Entourage synchronizing with Sync Services has generally caused the behavior you're describing.

No, all three boxes were unchecked.

Walt - Contact support. There is a tool they can send you that will look at the Sync Services clients that have been registered in the past. If you have old Entourage clients registered still they can cause issues and the tool will help you delete the clients too.

To contact support create a support ticket here.Feel free to reference this thread if they need clarification about the tool that is needed.
