I've synced all to-dos and calendar events (for all categories/calendars) between my Treo 650 and iMac, but most of the time To-Dos don't appear in iCal. I know that they have synced OK because if I search for a word from one of the titles I can locate it in the search results, but the To-Dos section at the right-hand side of the window stays blank. Sometimes unticking and reticking the calendars lets me see the to-dos, but generally not. This made me wonder if there was a mix up between Calendar and Task categories, i.e. MS or iSync is seeing the Unfiled category for calendar as a different category to the Unfiled category for tasks?

I realise this is probably an iCal problem rather than a MS problem, but wondered if anyone else was encountering this or had a fix? I'm on the latest patches for OSX Tiger on an Intel iMac.

Thanks,
Joe

In iCal, click on the sort order box at the top of the to do checklist, uncheck Hide Items Outside of Calendar View, and check Show All Completed Items.

Do they show up now?

Jason - thanks for the tip.

I already had iCal set-up correctly to display all To-Dos.

I think I've probably located the source of the problem. When I searched for a To-Do I noticed in the search results that a repeating task from the Treo appeared several times in iCal (maybe about 100 copies of it). When I removed the Task from the Treo and re-synced I can now see all To-Dos in iCal.

I'll have a play around and see if I can reproduce the problem later.

I tried deleting my recurring tasks and syncing ... all that happened then was that I couldn't see any of my tasks in iCal. But there were there if I could manage to find the right words to search on. Then I thought that the problem was the due date (a couple were overdue) so I changed the due date to today or a future date and they appeared on the To Do list.

I'm giving up on iCal To Dos ... does anyone have a recommendation for software that works on OS X and syncs to PDAs?

Hi Patricia,

I've not had any trouble for the last week or so since I removed all repeating tasks. I did remove them from both the Treo and from iCal. In iCal the repeating task had become multiple single tasks, and I deleted all of these. Since then iCal has displayed the remaining To-dos correctly.

Hope this helps.

Joe

It may have worked had I a list of all the repeating tasks I deleted. But in many cases I had them repeating indefinitely and I can't see them in iCal so how can I delete them in iCal? I am very frustrated about the bugs in iCal in general .. if I can't find anything better I may switch to Entourage.
Thanks ...

I had exactly the same problem. Missing Sync said this was a problem in iCal and its been reported to Apple. I found the only way to rectify the problem was to delete all my calendars, delete the ical folder under home user library app support, start ical and Entourage and sync everything back from Entourage using Paul Berkowitz's Applescript. Everything is appearing fine now in the todo's in iCal. But I think Apple really needs to address the problema as the above is a lot of work.

None of my todos were showing up in iCal, but I could see them on my Palm. I deleted all of the todos on the Palm and synched with iCal. Now I can add todos in iCal and see them on both. I guess I just can't have recuring todos...

The main problem here is that iCal cannot handle (correctly) recurring ToDos - you can specify them in the sync database (which we do, so any calendar client can use the recurrence data) but iCal freaks out, generally, when it tries to deal with them.

We've logged a bug with Apple about this and I believe they're working on it, in some way. Maybe for Leopard.
