After mingling (inthe log list) on the server the error is Local sync for doug@aloyisious failed:Sync failed:Syncing for com.markspace.synctogether.doug@aloyisious (Please check the sync history for the error)

'Sync failed on server' is the error generated in the client log.

So the client is getting items from the server, but the server isn't showing any items from the client.

Altogether they don't point at something I can fix. I have turned off the firewalls on both machines thinking they might be the problem, though they have been set up according to instructions.

BTW I love the idea of this software.

Hi Doug,

try resetting sync history from SyncTogether's Help menu, on either side.

cheers,
Martin

Hi I'm having exactly the same problem and resetting the sync history on both sides has not helped. Any suggestions?

If resetting the sync history from SyncTogether doesn't clear the problem, you could try resetting the sync history from iSync's preferences.

If you're still running into problems after that, contact support, and they'll help you out.

cheers,
m.

And that's exactly where we are at this point. Resetting Synctogether Sync history hasn't worked, resetting the iSync sync history hasn't worked.
:?

i had exactly the same issue after upgrading to 10.4.9
the solution that worked for me:

make sure synctogether is quit on both server and client machine (including the background process - open activity monitor and look for 'sync' named processes and kill them)

open isync on both client and server
in the prefs of isync, reset sync history on *both* machines

open sync together on both machines
reset sync history on *both* machines (in the help menu)

initiate a sync from the server machine.

this procedure resolved the no syncing issue for me. i hope it does for you too

I'm having the same problem since going to 10.4.9. Sometimes it's the server error, sometimes not. The history log looks like:

Code:
3/20/07 10:50:07.449 Starting up.
3/20/07 10:50:42.712 Syncing Server
3/20/07 10:53:10.513 Server sync completed
3/20/07 10:53:26.464 Performing local sync for chris@mini
3/20/07 10:53:26.568 Requesting a sync session
3/20/07 10:53:29.794 Negotiating
3/20/07 10:53:29.822 Pushing
3/20/07 10:53:29.925 Pushing Calendar Events
3/20/07 10:53:32.753 Pushed 43 changes
3/20/07 10:53:32.754 Mingling
3/20/07 10:53:33.737 Local sync for xxxxx@mini failed: Sync Failed: Syncing failed for com.markspace.synctogether.chris@mini (Please check the sync history for the error.).
3/20/07 10:53:33.737 Error for xxxxx@mini: Sync Failed - Syncing failed for com.markspace.synctogether.xxxxx@mini (Please check the sync history for the error.).

There are only those two nodes. The 10.4.9 update is the only change I made. Everything was working fine for weeks before then. Unfortunately none of the solutions suggested above work for me. Very frustrating.

I've been able to get syncing to work again. I'm going to explain how. I don't really know whether all steps are really necessary but I was struggling and really needed it to work again.

First, after the stuff happening as described in my earlier posts above, things deteriorated. Strange stuff was going on. Plug-In settings wouldn't stick, checked calendars would suddenly be unchecked when I checked later. All sorts of complaints in SyncTogether's log. Error messages when syncing. Resetting iSync as well as SyncTogether's sync histories on server and clients didn't help one single bit. The strange thing was that the server was able to sync with one of the clients and not with the other client.
After another attempt to get this mess cleared up I got more syning errors on this client and suddenly (on the client) the address book was empty and iCal was back to two empty default calendars. Darn, on the server side it was also very bad, all calendars duplicated and all address books an entries duplicated.

Luckily the data on the second client was still in tact (and had manual syncing so the data was still intact). Made a backup of its iCal and Address Book data and distributed it to the other two machines (the other client and the server). Loaded the backup iCal and Address Book data on the other two machines. I then reset iSync on all three machines, waiting until Entourage (which I sync my Address Book to as well) to finish syncing. I then emptied both the Inbound and Archive folders of SyncTogether on all three computers. Booted SyncTogether and did another reset of the sync history.

After that everything was back to normal. Some small anomalies like duplicated telephone numbers and one whole-day appointment was triplicated.

Did some tests and so far syncing seems to be working again.

The only question is this: why does sh*t like this happen? Was it 10.4.9 or simply the restart after updating the machines? I only restart when absolutely necessary...

Ernst.

Well glad a couple of you guys have got this to work. I've tried both methods described here. Neither worked for me.

Unlike others of you I don't have much history to go on, but am also wondering whether the problem relates to upgrading to 10.4.9, which I gather changed some stuff in the way SyncServices (and/or iSync?) operates. I'm using the demo, which expires tomorrow. But I'm certainly not ready to shell out $50 for it with this happening. And the support guy I was dealing with seems to have gone AWOL - have heard nothing in several days, despite several e-mails sent by me.

Before 10.4.9 I had it working with ical events & tasks but not with AB contacts. Now it's not working with any of them.

One thing I have found that might offer a clue (to someone geekier than I). I emptied the data in the Archive & Inbound folders (as described by Ernst). Then ran another unsuccessful sync. I then checked the contents of those folders again. On the server I have one file "accountname@clientname.data.20070321204109" in the Archive folder, and nothing in the Inbound folder. On the client I have nothing in the Archive folder, and one file "accountname@servername.data" in the Inbound folder. Does that offer any clues?

Thanks.

I might have left something out. Sometimes it's hard to exactly describe what one did...

Anyway I also trashed the SyncTogetherStore.db file, which can be found here: "~/Library/Application Support/SyncTogether/PersistentStore/SyncTogetherStore.db".

Beware that none of SyncTogether's processes should run otherwise this file is still used even when you trash it because it is still open. This can be resolved easily by logging out-in after moving the file to the trash.

Hope this helps. I also hope nothing important was in that file :-)

[Repeat of post on another thread on similar topic]

Here's part of the advice I got from support (finally!). It didn't help me (I tried S1 then S2). But maybe it will help someone else? Good luck:

Quote:
We have seen with 10.4.9 strange behavior, as the sync service were modified quite a bit by the new release. In some cases we asked users to completely reinstall SyncTogether. In some other cases removing the following files did fix the type of issue where even the reset of the sync history did not help. I've put up both solutions (S1 and S2)

S1
I will ask you to reinstall the software and do some repair on your drive. There is a sequence that you will need to respect to maximize the results.

First uninstall the software by using the uninstaller located in the SyncTogether folder.

Reset PRAM
Shut down your computer, as soon as you start your computer press and hold command-option-P-R keys simultaneously until you hear the chime start up sound 3 times. Then let go of the keys.

Start your computer in SAFE mode.
Restart your computer, as soon as you do, press and hold the shift key until you see "starting in safe mode" (you can then let go of the key). Let it start completely. The safe mode will run diagnostic applications in the background and fix any problem with the startup disk. Once this is done, just restart your computer and don't hold any keys.

Repair disk and permission
Use the Disk Utility application located in the Utility folder. Select your hard drive and use the verify and repair button for permission and disk. That will check your system for errors and correct them if it is necessary. You may need to start from the CD/DVD that came with your system to use Disk Utility application if you get the message that the errors can't be fix using the application from the HD.

Now reinstall the software.

S2
You will need to delete the following files and folders from all the server and clients (on all accounts on all computers)

Go to the Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/SyncTogether folder and delete the whole content of the folder.

The folder contain those files and folders.
Archive
Inbound
MySyncClientDescription.plist
PersistentStore
SyncNodes.xml
SyncTogetherClientDescription.plist

Delete also the Preference file, com.markspace.synctogether.plist from Users/<user>/Library/Preferences folder.

This means that you will have to recreate the network name on the server and recreate your clients.

Now, go back to the server account, create your network, we suggest to use only lower case when you create the Network. (Keep the application running on the server account). Go the the client accounts on the same computer as the server account, add each client to the “Join an existing lcoal group” (do not create a new group). On the remote client do the same, be sure to have all instances of the SyncTogether application running on all “syncable” accounts.

Neither of the solutions decribed above worked for me. Yippee -- I just wasted two hours of my weekend. I've e-mailed tech support.

"make sure synctogether is quit on both server and client machine (including the background process - open activity monitor and look for 'sync' named processes and kill them)"

This process generated the errors as before, but switched. Now the sync failed on the client rather than the server.

"I then emptied both the Inbound and Archive folders of SyncTogether"

Generated the same error as before. Now the sync failed on the server, not the client. :-)

"[trash] the SyncTogetherStore.db file, which can be found here: "~/Library/Application Support/SyncTogether/PersistentStore/SyncTogetherStore.db".

swaps me back to the sync failed on client error message.
